Bottom Up, or Top Down?

With Rob Carruthers

19/9 at 2pm AWST

Hot off his PAA presentation in Sydney this year, Rob is running his Brain-Based Pilates workshop in Perth!

You can attend in person, live-stream it, or access a recording of the workshop. All ticket holders get lifetime access to recordings.

This workshop will qualify you for 1 PD point for those registered within an organisation.

Understanding the power of the sensory system can be an absolute gamechanger for enhancing movement, easing pain, or calming the nervous system. Brain-based approaches are fast becoming a go-to for many therapists, and something Rob has been slowly pushing into the Pilates field since 2016, when he arrived back in Melbourne after starting his training back in London.

What is a brain-based approach? From a Pilates and movement perspective, it's about understanding how exercising your sensory system impacts how your body organises itself against load - whether that be gravity, or other external resistance. This a top-down approach, where as traditional Pilates and other movement modalities tend to focus on enhancing the local area of the body, which is more of a bottom-up approach. And both work effectively, in their own ways. The power of understanding both though, opens up new movement capabilities for your clients.

This workshop will be blended lecture and practical application, with real-time application of learning as we go. It's best suited to those who work in a 1:1 or small group setting, particularly those who might dable a bit more in athletic performance or injury rehabilitation. Those who work in larger groups are more than welcome to attend, but may find the application trickier.

Training The Male Body Over The Years

With Rob Carruthers

26/9 at 2pm AWST

As presented at The Pilates Expo in Sydney in May.

You can attend in person, live-stream it, or access a recording of the workshop. All ticket holders get lifetime access to recordings.

This workshop will qualify you for 1 PD point for those registered with an organisation.

Join Rob as we take a deep dive into the basics of physiological changes the male body goes through as they age, and how best to adapt training load to ensure men remain strong for as long as humanly possible. Although the changes aren’t as prolific as the female physiology through their lifespan, it is not to be overlooked, as other elements of male health also fall by the wayside more significantly in some ways.

This workshop contains lecture elements to understand the physiological changes, and then practical exploration around ways to modify basic exercises to facilitate the load requirements for males.
